If you want to help with the horrible incident involving Puppy Doe*, aka Kiya, in Massachusetts, there are a few things that you can do:

(* Pictures – Before and After WARNING: http://tinyurl.com/nr69txq )

Vigil for Puppy Doe aka
When: Sept 28 2013
Time: 5:00pm
Location: Quincy, MA*

*The location has been changed a few times in the last week due to concerns of the amount of people estimated to be attending, parking and traffic. So please go the Vigil For Puppy Doe Facebook page for up to date information:

If you can’t make the Vigil, and you are a Massachusetts resident, an email to your Representatives, asking them to work with other Representatives, like State Rep Louis Kafka of Stoughton*, that are trying to strengthen the Animal Abuse laws that are already in place.

In Massachusetts it is a Felony if you are found guilty of abusing an animal, but the maximum sentence, which someone found guilty may not get, is a mere $2,500 fine and 5 years in jail.

So please Contact Your Members of the House of Representatives, Massachusetts

Emails can be found here:

I emailed them ALL asking them to sign on to any animal welfare bill State Rep Louis Kafka creates.

I did get a few automated replies and some that were bounced back for being undeliverable, however three responded, (as of Sept 27th 2013, 9:15am), so you could also email a simple “Thank you” to them for this:

1. Rep. Daniel Winslow
Reply: “Thank you for contacting Rep. Winslow’s office on this important issue. You may have heard that the Representative is stepping down this week to take a job in the private sector. However, he did sign onto this bill as one of his last official acts.”

2. Rep. Anne Gobi
Reply: “I have already signed as a co sponsor.”

3. Rep. Aaron Vega
Reply: “I will be supporting HD 3883 – An Act Relative to Animal Cruelty to address this horrific story and treatment of animals.”

*State Rep. Louis Kafka, a Democrat from Stoughton Massachusetts, has for many years been active in trying to make the lives of animals better. He was quoted in one of the first articles written about this horrendous incident:

{State Rep. Louis Kafka (D-Stoughton) called the abuse “sickening” and said he will file a bill to toughen punishment of animal abuse, which now draws a maximum five years in prison and a $2,500 fine.

“It’s obvious that what’s on the books now, they really don’t know or care what the laws are,” said Kafka, who already is pushing a bill toughening other parts of the animal abuse laws. “I think we have to look at existing penalties, and where they can be increased, increase them.”}(1)

You can also send a simple “Thank you” to Rep. Kafka for the years he has been fighting to make the lives of Animals better.
