Iraq Veterans Against the War – Help Halt the Rush to War: Take Action Now!

Iraq Veterans Against the War

The rhetoric of pre-emptive wars and military strikes is tired, and we aren’t buying it. If you feel as if you are reliving history, you are not alone. At IVAW, we are living with heavy hearts and panicked minds as we recall the lies we were told to justify sending many of us to a war that has had an incredible impact on the rest of our lives, and we are not willing to have it happen again. We are getting in the streets and making our voices heard, but that alone is not enough.

Please call your member of congress and tell them to vote against military intervention in Syria on September 9.

The wars have not only impacted US servicemembers and veterans. They have deeply affected the lives of the people who live in those countries, those who cannot leave as well as those who have become refugees – many of whom are now living in Syria. Those who live in US occupied territories, past and present, have been exposed to depleted uranium, white phosphorus, napalm, agent orange, mustard gas, and phosgene, among others.

Although the United States helped to create the Geneva Conventions, our leaders refused to sign the article prohibiting the use of chemical weapons until 1993. And now, suddenly, our President believes that the US should serve as a moral compass for the rest of the world, holding others to a standard to which he is not willing to hold the United States. Call out the hypocrisy. Call your member of congress and tell them that you will not support military strikes in Syria.

Our nation’s leaders are telling us that we have a moral obligation to Syria, that we need to do it for the children. But how can we save children by bombing their country?

The truth is, Syria has been in a horrific civil war for over two years and there have been no discussions about diplomacy and aid to those who are suffering. The thin veil of human rights – coming from a nation who has committed human rights violations world-wide – is simply unbelievable. We cannot allow our government to railroad us into another criminal military intervention, not now, not ever.

Call you member of Congress NOW:
