“In the 1970s, paedophilia was theorised as something fully in conformity with man and even with children,” the Pope said.

“We are here because some of us and our friends voted for change.  What did we get?  What we got was a more effective imperial CEO.” — Bruce A. Dixon of Black Agenda Report, Chicago, 16 October 2010

BBC gives child rape apologist air time

The Pope had a Christmas message for the world this year: we should forgive Catholic priests for raping children because everyone else was doing it. He invented a peculiar history that bears no resemblance to the late 20th century I lived in.

“In the 1970s, paedophilia was theorised as something fully in conformity with man and even with children,” the Pope said.

“It was maintained — even within the realm of Catholic theology — that there is no such thing as evil in itself or good in itself. There is only a ‘better than’ and a ‘worse than’. Nothing is good or bad in itself.”

The Pope said abuse revelations in 2010 reached “an unimaginable dimension” which brought “humiliation” on the Church.

I grew up in the 1970s. Some of you did, too. Does anyone remember anyone influential saying that child-rape was a reasonable practice? How about anyone on the fringe making vague suggestions that children can give permission to participate in sexual activity? I don’t know of any substantial culture at that time that would have endorsed such a thing; NAMBLA was little more than a freakish collection of perverts who got far more attention than their numbers warranted. If there was anything that was universally reviled, it was the creepy pedophile. MORE

Bishop: A Choice Between Life Of Woman Or Fetus? Both Should Die

Thomas J. Olmsted is the bishop of Phoenix.  Today he stripped that town’s oldest Catholic hospital of its affiliation with that benighted faith.  The story began last summer:

A woman with a history of pulmonary hypertension sought treatment at the hospital when she was 11 weeks pregnant. The condition, which affects the heart and lungs, is often fatal for pregnant woman.

While at St. Joseph’s, the woman’s condition worsened to the point that doctors described her as “moribund.”

Health workers consulted with the hospital’s ethics board and agreed that terminating the pregnancy would be allowable under church health rules, because the intent was not to kill the fetus but to save the woman’s life.

Basically their choices were to save the mother or not.  Either way the baby was not going to survive.  The hospital saved the mother.  Using the Church’s famous non-relativist morality as his guide, he declared that an immoral abortion had taken place.

In addition to throwing the hospital out of the Catholic club, he also announced that a nun on its ethics board had excommunicated herself by participating in the decision.  MORE

Creating a new boogie man

First there was the drug war. And there actually were a lot of drugs to be found and the government helped bring in more whenever it had the chance. And billions of dollars in law enforcement “make work” projects were created and civil liberties were shredded. Then there was the “War on Terror”

Not many terrorists, so lots of creative “Wag the Dog” like stories were generated to manufacture threats…to justify countless billions in domestic empire building. Now we have cyberwar.

The real threat is the Chinese, but going after real threats hasn’t been the US’s strong suit lately, so, as in the “War on Terror,” a new war had to be stage managed. Enter “W”, kind of like Zoro or “V” but with a hipper look.

  1. Yes, there was permissivism in the 1970s regarding paedophilia. Child porn images were legal for 10 years in Sweden, Denmark, and 3 other countries (I do not remember which ones).
Look it up first, before posting.
